10/21/06 9:00am update
Well, we all know that there are going to be ups and downs and today has been hard. Throughout the night, Josh's oxygen levels dropped & he became disoriented and agitated. Mom and Dad were called to comfort him. He was fighting the doctors & pulling out his medical devices and as you all know, Josh can kick anyone's butt that he wants to, when he wants to! Mom and Dad did get him calmed down but he did not sleep.
I went to him about 8:00am. He was still pretty agitated and wouldn't let the nurses change his IV dressing or give him medicines. I talked to him, and found out that he just wants to know EVERYTHING that they are doing at all times & we worked with the nurses to make sure that before they do anything, they talk to him first & make him understand what is happening. They were able to change his IV dressings, give him his meds for the surgery & put his oxygen monitor back on. He is in a great deal of pain. He is frustrated & wants to be further along than he is, but we all know that this will take a lot of time to get thing moving forward.
He is scheduled to head to surgery in the next hour or so. He will also have another CT scan later today for the neurology team to make sure he has no blood vessel injuries to his face.
The staff asked us to keep it to one at a time visits, don't let him talk & try to get him to sleep. He is having a real hard time today. We'll know a lot more after the surgery today to determine the next steps with his legs, pelvis & hand.
We're all still positive, but having a more difficult day than yesterday.
All our love.
Julie
