10/21/06 3pm update
Josh is out of his first surgery which was to determine the extent of his other injuries & evaluate his legs.
They put pins in one of his left fingers & washed out the leg wounds which do look free of infection at this time. They explained that infection is the biggest worry with the injuries they are seeing from Iraq.
His pelvis injuries are very complicated & will require some major surgery/ies. They will start with the first one on Monday with an Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon who will do two separate procedures to stabalize his pelvis & hip socket.
Josh's road to recovery is going to be longer than we had hoped initially, but we are taking each day on it's own and even though the next few are going to be tough, we'll get through them all. Keep the prayers going, we all need them.
They are working to get better pain management for Josh set up by tomorrow so that his procedures going forward will be easier on him.
I'll update more tomorrow. For now, our next steps should be surgery on Monday.
Thank you all.
Julie
